Passive signals

A selfie for everyone costs you good users.Signals clear most of them first.

Signals read the device and network around every visit, with no selfie, and keep each person's history, so an anonymous HumanCheck runs only for the ones that look risky.

The problem

One signal clears most people. It also clears most fraud.

  • Selfie required

    Every visit, every time

    Good users feel like suspects

A selfie check on every visit adds friction for the people who were never going to commit fraud in the first place.

  • Day 1Day 4Day 9
    Same person, 3 devices

A new device looks like a new person

Fraud rings rotate emails and devices fast enough that one snapshot in time can't tell a returning risk from someone brand new.

    No history connects them

    Risk with no memory

Without a history, the same account can look clean today and risky tomorrow, with nothing connecting the two visits.

How it works

Signals first, a selfie only when it's needed

  1. 01

    Signals run on every visit

Over 350 passive signals read the device and network around each person on every visit, with no selfie.

  2. 02

An anonymous HumanCheck only for the risky

An anonymous HumanCheck is reserved for the sessions the signals flag, so most people pass through without ever seeing it.

  3. 03

A history that outlasts one visit

Every visit adds to the same person's history, so risk that builds up over weeks still shows.

Common questions

What do the passive signals actually read?

Signals run in the background on every visit, covering things like IP address, VPN and data center traffic, device details and typing patterns. None of it needs a selfie. Every check reads over 80 active and over 350 passive signals in all.

How does the trust score work?

Everyone starts at 100, and signals from the check deduct from it. On Insights, sessions sort into Low, Moderate, Elevated and High, grouped by what fired, and your settings decide where the line sits.

How does the history build over time?

Every visit adds to the same person's history, so a device that passed last week carries that record into this week's check. A pattern across visits catches fraud a single moment can miss.

Would we ever run a check on everyone instead of just the risky ones?

That's your call. Passive signals can run alone, or you can require an anonymous HumanCheck for everyone instead of only the ones the signals flag. Starting with risky-only keeps friction lowest, and you can change it anytime.

What happens with false positives?

A flagged session doesn't have to mean a block. In Workflows you decide the outcome: ask for an anonymous HumanCheck of about 3 seconds, or hold it for your team to review.

Do you store photos of our users?

No. We keep a face code, not your users' images.

How much work is it to add?

It's two API calls: one to start the check and one to read the result.

Do we have to replace our KYC or bot tools?

No. It sits on top of your stack, so you keep your KYC and bot tools.

What does it cost?

It's 50 to 100 times cheaper than KYC. You pay per check, and nobody uploads an ID document.
